Secateur electrique en caféiculture au Costa Rica - INFACO

When coffee production rhymes with INFACO

Coffee is a beverage that is exported to France and all over the world, but do you really know its history?

Coffee growing around the world

Coffee growing, or coffee cultivation, covers all the activities involved in producing coffee beans: cultivation, harvesting and processing (roasting and grinding). Brazil, Colombia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Ethiopia are the countries that produce the most coffee in the world. But let's focus on Costa Rica! It was there that our technical sales representative, James, flew out in February 2023 to visit INFACO's Costa Rican customers. The country is renowned for its high-quality Arabica coffee.

Pruning coffee trees

Growing coffee is very demanding, and one of the most important stages in the process is pruning. As in wine growing, there are different types of pruning in coffee growing. They depend on the cultivation techniques used by each coffee grower. One of the best-known methods, severe pruning, involves low pruning to allow the plant to regenerate and optimise production.

The wood of the coffee tree is quite hard, so pruning is made easier by the use of professional electric pruning shears.

In Central America, the INFACO pruning shears are generally used from December to February/March in the heart of the Costa Rican coffee plantations. Be patient, the coffee cherries will soon be growing...

And the coffee was!

After the pruning of the coffee plant, the cherries are harvested, but then what? Before it reaches your cup in the morning, the coffee has to be roasted and then ground. There are several roasting and grinding methods, which will influence the colour and flavour of your coffee.

Specially adapted equipment

Coffee growers in Costa Rica and elsewhere need high-performance professional tools for pruning coffee trees. INFACO's electric pruning shears are particularly appreciated by the local population, who recognise their effective power, unequalled efficiency and obvious (or much appreciated) working comfort! Used on a pole or directly by hand, the F3020 electric pruning shears offer indispensable ease of use. Finally... it's perhaps thanks to INFACO that you have good coffee in the morning 😉

So, what do you know about coffee growing and coffee?
