Why choose electric pruning shears? for tree pruning?
Testimonial from a tree surgeon
Maxime Malotet, a certified tree surgeon and landscaper based in the Grand-Est region, shares his day-to-day life on social media (Instagram, TikTok and Facebook). Since the 2025–2026 season, he has been using the INFACO F3020 professional electric pruner for his pruning work at height. Why is the choice of cutting tools important?
When working in trees, the choice of tools is essential. You need equipment suited to working at height. The sharpness of the blade is also very important for achieving clean, precise cuts. For me, it’s essential for high-quality work.
Before using electric pruning shears, what did you use for pruning at height? What convinced you to choose the INFACO model?
Before, I mainly used a chainsaw. It’s effective, but quite heavy and bulky. With the F3020, what struck me straight away was how light and easy to handle it is. When you’re suspended in the air for several hours, you really feel the difference.

At heights of 15, 20 or sometimes 30 metres, an incident involving a cutting tool can be fatal. How do you approach safety on a day-to-day basis, and how does the wireless safety system built into the secateurs change the way you work whilst suspended?
At those heights, there’s clearly no room for error. The slightest lapse in concentration can have serious consequences. We obviously remain fully alert, but having a safety system built into the pruning shears gives us extra confidence in our equipment.
Personally, I’ve opted for the system with conductive gloves and I wear them on both hands, because I regularly switch hands depending on the cuts I need to make.

When you’re up a tree, every gram counts – and so does ergonomics! Is the F3020 comfortable to carry and use?
Yes, definitely – having the battery on your back means the tool itself is much lighter. The result is that the pruner is so light that you soon forget the cable is there. And with the armband keeping the cable along your arm, it doesn’t get in the way and offers excellent ergonomics. The tool feels really light, which is a real bonus throughout the day.
Many landscaping companies still use manual, pneumatic or battery-powered tools for tree pruning. What would you say to convince them to switch to the F3020?
Honestly… they just need to give it a go! What surprised me most was that I’d never seen a pruning shears with such power. Once you’ve worked with it in real-world conditions, you quickly realise the benefits of a tool like this.

For pruning, light trimming and thinning work up to 55 mm in diameter (depending on the cutting head), yes. Although it does not replace a chainsaw for larger cuts exceeding 55 mm, the F3020 eliminates the need to carry a petrol-powered or pole-mounted machine, which is often heavy, noisy and bulky. It offers greater precision, comfort and speed for routine cutting tasks.
The INFACO system is based on a conductive loop. The arborist wears special gloves connected to the system: as soon as direct contact is made between the blade and the glove on the opposite hand (or both hands, depending on the configuration), the blade closes instantly, preventing any risk of amputation or serious injury. This is an essential safety feature when working suspended at complex angles.
The F3020’s casing has been designed for a symmetrical grip. When working in hard-to-reach areas of trees, professionals are often forced to switch hands to reach an awkwardly positioned branch without losing their balance: by wearing a conductive glove on each hand, cut protection remains 100 per cent effective, regardless of which hand is holding the tool.
